CISA added five vulnerabilities exploited by Flax Typhoon to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog and ordered federal agencies to remediate them by October 11, 2026. The China-linked operation has affected roughly 20 Taiwanese universities and reportedly maintains VPN-based persistence while stealing sensitive information from U.S. critical infrastructure organizations.
The five entries are CVE-2015-3306, CVE-2015-5477, CVE-2016-3081, CVE-2021-3199 and CVE-2023-22894. Flax Typhoon allegedly used a Mirai-variant IoT botnet to distribute scanning activity and obscure its source, complicating efforts to identify and contain the infrastructure behind attempted intrusions.
Authorities seized seven domains associated with Integrity Technology Group tools, while reported targets include Taiwanese energy organizations, airports in Japan and Poland, a multinational NGO and a U.S. power company. Perimeter remediation, investigation of VPN persistence and review of sensitive-data access merit immediate attention.

Editorial: Recommended Actions

01
PRIORITY
Remediate CVE-2015-3306, CVE-2015-5477, CVE-2016-3081, CVE-2021-3199, and CVE-2023-22894 across affected systems, prioritizing critical-infrastructure environments and meeting CISA’s October 11, 2026 federal deadline. CISA added all five flaws to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog after linking active exploitation to Flax Typhoon. U.S. critical-infrastructure operators should also investigate VPN-based persistence and sensitive-information theft associated with the activity.
02
PRIORITY
Patch Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Manager against CVE-2026-76504 immediately and verify that every deployed manager is covered. Cisco confirmed exploitation before releasing the fix, and the flaw allows unauthenticated API authentication bypass with administrator-level access. CISA has added the vulnerability to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog.
03
PRIORITY
Install the latest PaperCut fixes, apply the available mitigations, and inspect logs for vendor-provided indicators now. Attackers are exploiting a pre-authentication remote-code-execution chain in the wild, and multiple patch bypasses are tracked as WT-2026-0141 through WT-2026-0144. Successful exploitation may result in complete compromise of the affected system.
04
PRIORITY
Upgrade Ahsay Cloud Backup Server to the vendor-fixed release and identify any internet-exposed deployments running versions through 10.3.4. Attackers are chaining CVE-2026-105133 and CVE-2026-105134 for unauthenticated command execution as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. Examine affected servers for JSP web shells, XMRig miners, and the fraudulent Edge update service used for persistence.
05
PRIORITY
Update affected iPhones to iOS 26.3, prioritizing cryptocurrency-wallet users and other high-risk personnel. Multiple actors used the P7 DarkSword exploit kit against iOS 18.4 through 18.7, and older releases may remain vulnerable. The deployed Coruna implant can harvest wallet information and search Photos and Notes for BIP39 recovery phrases.
