Cisco warned that attackers are actively exploiting CVE-2026-76519 in Secure Email Gateway appliances, while unknown attackers have manipulated internet-exposed refrigeration controllers at hundreds of French supermarkets, causing food spoilage and reported fires. The incidents place both security infrastructure and operational systems under immediate pressure.
A crafted email attachment can exploit Cisco’s improper attachment handling to write arbitrary files and potentially execute commands as root without authentication. Cisco says only a limited number of customers have been affected, but active exploitation and root-level impact make CVE-2026-76519 an immediate remediation and threat-hunting priority.
Ivanti Connect Secure and PAN-OS face parallel active-exploitation concerns: attackers chained three zero-days against fully patched Ivanti appliances, while CVE-2026-0322 enables root code execution on PAN-OS and has no complete workaround. Citizen Lab also tied Discover-Tech’s AdFection operation to zero-click Candiru infections at Al Jazeera, extending the attack surface from security appliances to advertising infrastructure.

Editorial: Recommended Actions

01
PRIORITY
Patch Cisco Secure Email Gateway appliances against CVE-2026-76519 immediately, then investigate affected systems for unauthorized file writes and root-level command execution. Attackers are actively exploiting crafted email attachments without authentication, putting Secure Email Gateway customers at risk of full appliance compromise.
02
PRIORITY
Apply Ivanti’s fix for CVE-2026-104935 and investigate Connect Secure appliances for credential collection, sensitive-key searches, network discovery and data exfiltration. Do not rely solely on Ivanti’s Integrity Checker Tool: the observed activity used in-memory operations and evidence removal to evade it, and attackers chained three zero-days against fully patched appliances.
03
PRIORITY
Upgrade affected PAN-OS devices to a supported fixed release for CVE-2026-0322 without waiting for the October 17 CISA deadline. Palo Alto Networks reports active exploitation enabling arbitrary code execution with root privileges across PA-Series, VM-Series, Panorama and M-Series products, and no complete workaround is available.
04
PRIORITY
Patch hosted and self-hosted BeyondTrust Remote Support appliances for CVE-2026-102764, then hunt for the obfuscated SAWFLY PHP web shell and SUID-shell privilege escalation. Review previously closed privilege-escalation alerts as well: automated triage reportedly dismissed genuine activity as false positives during an intrusion that could expose credentials and lead to host control.
05
PRIORITY
Remove refrigeration controllers and StoreView administration panels from direct internet exposure and review connected systems for unauthorized temperature, defrost and alarm changes. Attackers compromised controllers at hundreds of French supermarkets, reportedly raising temperatures to 50°C, activating defrosting and partially disabling alarms; 1,506 exposed Danfoss StoreView panels were observed, including 820 on French networks.
